This classical style of expressive movement has something to offer for everyone.
Ballet for pleasure or for the more serious-minded, this classical style has something to offer everyone. Ballet dates back to the 17th century and the conventional steps, grace and fluidity of movement are still found in Ballet today. Choreographers have been influenced by composers through the ages.
Ballet has a technique which is the foundation of all dance.
The basic positions and techniques of ballet were developed long ago. Over the centuries, choreographers have revised the classical techniques, but the basic positions have remained the same. When you begin learning the steps and poses of ballet, you will realize that most of them have French names. King Louis XIV of France started the first ballet school, the Royal Academy of Dance, in 1661. Most of the French terms have been carried throughout the years.
Ballet at the LJSI is classically based and we encourage our pupils to appreciate all aspects of ballet, including mime, character, repertoire and music.
